The covers have been taken off the new Peugeot 508, 2018 will be a sharp departure from the outgoing models in many ways. This reveal occurred only one day after some leaked pictures appeared showing off the high end cabin and stylish exterior. This 508 is a new generation car and Peugeot are keen to impress new and existing customers. Let’s take a closer look at what this latest Peugeot 508 has to offer.

Initial Impressions

The first things many people will notice are the new lower roofline, the slimmer headlamps, frameless doors and detailing inspired by the concept car. This is a much sharper looking car compared to the outgoing model. At 4.75m long, it’s 80mm shorter, and at 1.4m tall it’s 60mm lower than the previous 508. The profile is similar now to VW Arteon and Audi A5 Sportback, two of it’s prominent rivals.

Diving Deeper

The full LED headlamps and daytime running lights are obviously inspired by the Fractal, Instinct and Exalt concept cars. The rear tail lamps are reminiscent of those seen on the 5008 and it stablemate the 3008 SUVs. Peugeot are claiming boot space at 487L, increasing to 1,537L with the rear seats folded and there will be a range of wheel sizes from 16-19” on offer.

In the cabin Peugeot have continued to lay out their design based upon their SUV range. There is a 12.3” i-Cockpit display, a central 10” touchscreen, a pair of 12v and four USB sockets for charging and support. As one would expect there is both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support and wireless smartphone charging. There’s a generous 32L of storage dotted around the cabin and a variety of material choices on offer, including: black lacquer, real wood, chrome, Nappa leather and Alcantara.

Engine Choices

The 508 will have both petrol and diesel engine choices available. There is a 1.6L and a 2.0L petrol power plant, they generate 134 kW and 168 kW of power respectively and are paired with an eight speed auto gearbox. There are three diesel engines that generate 97 kW, 119 kW and 134 kW respectively, the base model will get a six speed manual or eight speed auto gearbox and the remainder of the range will be automatic only.
