The new Peugeot 3008 and its stablemates have enjoyed significant sales success so far in 2018. In fact, Peugeot is one of the fastest growing brands in Australia during this year thanks to a 24.1% sales bump in the first half of 2018. Now detractors may say that this is coming off a lower base compared to the competition, but by any given metric the sales figures are impressive. Let’s take a look at how these sales figures are spread out across the lineup.

The Peugeot 3008 Effect

By the end of the first half of 2018 Peugeot racked up 1,333 sales, and this is an increase over the 1.074 sold in the same period last year. Over half of those sales are attributed to the 3008 with 691 registrations recorded so far. The 3008s larger stablemate the 5008 racked up 307 sales in the same time period. Now that Peugeot has a proper range of SUVs and crossovers it seems that the Aussie public is responding. We have seen a demand for European style cars to fill this competitive segment, and Peugeot is keen to build their brand here in Australia.

The SUV Sales Demand

The Peugeot lineup of SUVs and crossovers now goes from the tiny 2008 right up to the 5008 seven seater. Peugeot has seen their SUV sales here overtake the passenger car offering for the very first time in Australia. Last year, Peugeot passengers car accounted for 69% of the car registrations and this figure has now been eclipsed. During the e2017 financial year, the Peugeot SUV range had a healthy 208% sales jump as a part of a broader 54% growth in overall sales in the same period. So the sales figures in 2018 seem to be following a trend as more off road vehicles are made available Peugeot sell more.

The Underlying Causes

Peugeot cars provide an excellent driving experience, and the availability of more SUV and crossover cars helps to drive sales. However, there are other factors at work, such as the specifications have been improved across the range. The company has a new importer on board, Peugeot has extended their warranty from 3 to 5 years unlimited, and the pricing structure has been shuffled to compete on a level playing field.
