The 2019 Peugeot 508 landed on Australian shores near the end of last year. Offered in Fastback and Sportswagon variants, both only in GT model, the Peugeot 508 GT is a gorgeous, well proportioned five-seater that is priced competitively with other luxury top-spec European sedans and wagons, such as the Audi A4 and Volvo S60/V60.
This particular dark blue 508 GT is a perfect example of what European performance should look like, elegant, dynamic and packed with impressive features. Boasting more power than the equivalent Audi A4 40TFSI, this stunning Peugeot 508 GT is also significantly more affordable.
Included in the list price is a car packed with a generous level of standard equipment with the 508 GT offering style, class, amenity, performance and safety features- some of which will cost you significantly extra among competitors in the class.
Compared to its predecessor the 2019 Peugeot 508 GT is lighter, lower and shorter yet offers ample interior space, more technology and features, a more powerful turbo-petrol engine and greatly improved fuel economy.
Stunning and sporty from all angles
The Peugeot 508 GT is elegant and sleek with a muscular and athletic profile, earning it accolades and winning design awards around the world.
Compared to the previous-generation, the 2019 Peugeot 508 GT Fastback is 60mm shorter in height and 80mm less in length, giving it a more sportier profile than before.
Notable exterior features of the 508 GT include a striking front grille with embossed chequered chrome motif framed by Full LED headlights, GT Sports styling kit, 3D LED tail lights with unlock animation and 18” machined and black-finish alloy wheels.
Forgoing the ‘build your own car for a whole lot more than the advertised price’ model of some German car manufacturers, with the Peugeot it’s all included. Especially in this one, with the only option of a sunroof already fitted. How does top of the line specs and options, fully included, sound?
Beautiful yet functional on the inside
The answer is damn good, with a state-of-the-art sound system tuned perfectly to the cabin’s acoustics. The infotainment system includes in-built features like smartphone connectivity (via Apple Carplay, Android Auto or MirrorLink) and 3D navigation.
Stepping inside, this car exudes style and elegance. Highlights of the lush and beautiful interior presentation include heated and massaging Nappa leather seats, the i-Cockpit interior concept with an all-digital customisable instrument panel digital and intuitive 10.0-inch infotainment touch screen on the centre console, together with Qi wireless phone charging.
There is a general cabin ambience in the 508 GT that could easily be considered on par with the likes of luxury Euro brands like Volkswagen and Audi. The quilted carbon-fibre effect leather trim and general soft-touch surfaces look inviting with a quality feel. “Boost” and “Relax” ambience modes alter lighting, massage and sound settings for that added business class feel.
The ergonomics and comfort for the driver and passengers are excellent, and passengers also get individual touch-operated LED reading lights embedded in the top lining.
Boot space is huge in both the 508 GT Fastback and Sportswagon (up to 1537L and 1780L max. respectively with seats folded down).
The car’s take on safety is faultless, with a 5 star ANCAP safety rating including a comprehensive active driver-assist safety suite featuring adaptive suspension, 360-degree parking camera, adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, as well as useful features such as City park (self-parking technology), smart key entry, and an electric tailgate with gesture control.
Power and efficiency. The best of both worlds.
Under the bonnet sports a high output 1.6-litre turbo-petrol unit with front-wheel drive. The four-cylinder engine outputs a maximum of 165kW/300Nm and is matched solely to an Aisin EAT8 eight-speed automatic transmission
The bonnet of the 508 GT is hiding a powerful, compact 1.6L turbo-petrol pumping out an impressive 165kW, that’s over 220 horsepower. Transversely mounted, the GT is mated to an Aisin EAT8 eight-speed automatic transmission. The FWD layout helps to get the power to the ground, and deliver a spirited and responsive driving experience that is sure to put a smile on your face.
While 8.1 seconds to 100 km/h, and a turbo motor putting out 165kW might have you thinking the fuel economy is going to hurt, you’d be surprised. Combined with the 8-speed transmission and the latest in fuel efficiency technology the 508 GT achieves barely 5.1L/100Kms on the highway, with a combined fuel economy of 6.3L/100km.
Backed by Peugeot’s five-year, unlimited kilometre warranty, five-year roadside assistance and five-year Service Price Promise program, this GT is hard to resist. Just be careful, take it for a drive and you might not be able to help yourself.
