The new generation 508 is due to hit our showrooms later this year, but leaked photographs and details have many enthusiasts keen to know more. So, here we’ll take a brief look at the new 508 and what you can expect.
The leaked photos have given us a great deal of information about what we can expect from the new Peugeot 508. The new generation model features concept inspired details including slim headlamps, frameless doors and a lower roofline that combined to create a sharper looking aesthetic. The new model is lower and shorter than its predecessor, sitting at 4.75 metres long and 1.4 metres tall, creating a sleek profile that is more like the Volkswagen Arteon rather than a standard sedan.
The full LED lights take inspiration from the Exalt, Fractal and Instinct concepts, but the tail lights bear a familial resemblance to the 5008 and 3008.
Despite the compact dimensions, the new Peugeot 508 is immensely practical. The model offers 487 litres of cargo space that can be expanded to a cavernous 1537 litres when the rear seats are folded. There is also an impressive 32 litres of storage space dotted around the cabin, four USB sockets, and two 12v outlets to support all your charging needs.
The overall design is inspired by the Peugeot SUV range. At the heart of the cockpit display is a 12.3 inch display and a central 10 inch touchscreen, compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
The 508 is also packed with gear and gadgets. The Peugeot EMP2 platform provides the latest in semi autonomous driving assistance features including lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control, auto emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, and automatic high beam.
The 508 will be available with a choice of petrol and diesel engines in the European market. The PureTech S&S, 1.6 litre petrol offers 134 kW, while the 2.0 litre unit provides 168 kW of power when paired with an eight speed auto transmission. The diesel options include 97, 119 and 134 kW guises. The base 508 will be offered with an eight speed automatic or six speed manual, while the rest of the range will be exclusively automatic.
The new Peugeot 508 is set to arrive in Europe in late 2018, with the Australian launch following, but exact specifications will only be announced closer to the local debut.
