The Peugeot 208 is a fantastic car to drive, and it’s guaranteed to turn heads. However, one place that you don’t want to have any distractions is inside the cabin when driving. Even a momentary loss of concentration can have drastic consequences for you, your passengers and other road users. To help our customers and other drivers we have put together a short list of three top tips to stay focused whilst driving.
1. Manage Your Smartphone
This is easily one of the biggest problems on our roads today. Using apps, texting and talking with a smartphone are banned in many states. In fact, research has shown that talking with someone on a mobile device is far more distracting than talking to someone travelling in the car with you. Anything that can take your attention away from the road is a risk and managing that risk is essential. What is also critical for many people is a smartphone so how can these two activities be reconciled safely? Well, you could use a hands free cradle, earpiece or other methods to limit the distractions. However, this would reduce the risks, but sadly not remove the threat entirely. In our opinion, it would be more prudent to turn the device off entirely and check it when it’s safe to do so. Ideally, this would be in a designated parking area when you have to time to check your phone or make an urgent call.
2. The Rear Mirror is Not for Grooming
Many people of all sexes these days seem to treat their driving seat as an extension of their bathroom. When you’re driving around you won’t have to wait too long before you see another driver checking their hair or even applying makeup. The rear mirror isn’t a good substitute for a vanity or bathroom mirror in your home. It will be hard to get good results on the move, and it is a dangerous distraction when driving. The best advice here is to set your alarm earlier and ensure that you have your hair and makeup done before you leave the house. This helps you to look great and arrive at your destination in one piece.
3. Don’t Driver When Emotional
We all get angry, sad or upset sometimes, this is a natural, but it isn’t a good state to be in when driving. When we are emotional, we can easily become distracted and even get caught up in road rage incidents. If you feel deeply affected by something don’t drive and if you have to be somewhere get a friend to drive you or take some time to calm down first. Sometimes taking deep breaths and focusing on getting ready to drive can be enough to get you to your destination safely. If you feel overwhelmed on the road pull over when it’s safe to do so at a designated parking spot and take a break.
