3 Common Peugeot 308 GTi Maintenance Errors to Avoid

However, like any complex piece of equipment, the 308 GTi will need regular maintenance to keep it working as intended by the manufacturer. 1. Failing to Check Tyre Pressures

Avoiding flat tyres is a good idea for safety, but an incorrectly inflated tyre can also cost you money. An under inflated tyre will affect your fuel economy, and over time this can really add up. It’s recommended that you make sure to check your tyre pressures at least every few months and ideally every month. The recommended tyre pressures are listed in your owner’s manual, and these should be followed carefully. Don’t ever guess the tyre pressure by eye, use the correct equipment because looks can be deceiving.

2. Not Changing the Oil

The oil in your car needs to be changed periodically to keep your car running well. The average oil change interval for a modern car is approximately 12,500km, and older cars would be more like 5,000km. If oil gets old and it’s left in the engine for too long, it can break down and form deposits of sludge. These can damage your car leading to an expensive repair bill. A regularly scheduled service will include an oil change in most cases, but with a little preparation, it’s not too hard to do at home.

3. Failing to Inspect the Brakes

The brakes on your car are the single most important pieces of safety equipment. For this reason, it’s vital that you get your brakes inspected on a regular basis. Changing brake pads can be expensive, but if you leave it too long the brakes will wear out completely, and the rotators will be affected. Sorting out a rotator problem will cost far more than changing a set of brake pads. This isn’t really a job for a novice at home, but there are signs to look out for that may indicate a brake problem, such as a reduction in braking responsiveness, excessive vibration when braking, the cars pulls to the side when braking and clicking, grinding and screeching noises when braking.
