This also includes the larger seven seat family SUV, where demand has never been higher and the competition in this segment is hotter than ever.

The Skoda Kodiaq and Peugeot 5008 are two of the most well known European models, with both offering a great blend of great looks and practicality and seemingly not much that separates them. In a different take from a pure Peugeot 5008 review, we’re going to take a look at two of the fiercest rivals in this market at the moment and see how they measure up against each other.

Exterior

Each vehicle is certainly great to look at from the outside, but in different ways. The Skoda has a sleek almost understated look, while the Peugeot 5008 sports a slightly bolder appearance with a more prominent front bumper and grille design with nice contrasting trim, as well as striking light features such as the running led indicators at the front, and a claw design for the rear lights. Both look very similar in size, though the Kodiaq is ever slightly larger physically, and the Peugeot 5008 has a longer wheelbase.

Price

Peugeot has decided to make the two highest level trim 5008 available in Australia, with the GT Line starting at $51,990 and the top level GT diesel variant at $58,990. Similarly, the Kodiaq is limited to three trims, with the entry level trim at $46,390, the Sportline at $50,290 and its most powerful Kodiaq RS for $68,890. So when we compare the top level trims of each, the Peugeot 5008 comes out a clear winner and better for your hip pocket being around a cool $10,000 cheaper.

Power and Efficiency

The Skoda Kodiaq is a whopping 249kg heavier than the 1473kg Peugeot 5008 GT Line, but makes up for this with a more powerful 132kW/320Nm 2.0-litre engine. This gives the Kodiaq more grunt over the 121kW/240Nm 1.6-litre unit in the 5008, allowing it be quicker off the mark. However a bigger engine means a thirstier one, with the Kodiaq needing 7.6 L/100km, while the 5008 runs at a more economical 7.0L/100km. The difference in fuel economy is even greater still between the 5008 GT and Kodiaq RS, who both sport 2.0-litre diesel engines (with different outputs).

Driving Experience

Both vehicles handle very well on the road. The lighter Peugeot 5008 is a more agile with a responsive feel, making for enjoyable drives. If it feels a bit too tame for your liking, switch to Sport mode to turn up that feeling of intensity. The Kodiaq with its more powerful engine is useful in overtaking situations, but is much grippier that the 5008 on the road, meaning a solid, but not necessarily fun experience.

Interior

Interior-wise both are very nicely laid out, and much like the exterior styling, it’s a matter of personal taste. The Skoda does somewhat feel more spacious in the driver seat. Then again some will like that cozier wraparound feel of the 5008 cabin, especially at the front. Both have nice responsive touchscreen infotainment units on the centre console. Design-wise, The touchscreen in the Kodiaq is mounted into the dashboard, whereas in the 5008, it is like a screen propped up on top of the vents which gives it a more prominent look. Other notable differences in the Peugeot include it’s unique i-Cockpit design, including a smaller than usual steering wheel and special one-touch gear shifter that sets it apart from the Kodiaq.

Boot Space

Similar to many other seven-seater SUVs, both the Peugeot 5008 and Skoda Kodiaq don’t offer a particularly roomy third row for adults, and boot space is limited when you have these seats up. However, realistically in most situations you will only be using the first two rows, and with the third row down it opens up the boot space in the Kodiaq to a respectable 630L. However this is dwarfed by the 780L of space you get in the Peugeot 5008 (enough for a few more shopping bags). But if you go further and fold down all rear seats the boot capacity of both vehicles expands to a more similar size (2005L in the Kodiaq and 2042L in the 5008).

A couple of nifty differences is that in the Peugeot 5008, each of three second row seats can be operated and folded independently, giving you more flexibility in using the space. You can also remove the third row seats for a bit more space. The second row seats in the Kodiaq fold in the more traditional 60/40 split, and the third row seats are non-removable.

Safety

Safety is always a big priority and it’s good to know that both cars scored the maximum 5 stars on the Euro NCAP safety tests. But the 5008 does edge out the Kodiaq because it does offer some additional safety features as standard such as lane departure warning, active lane keeping assistance, and speed limit recognition.

Verdict

It can be said that both the Peugeot 5008 and the Skoda Kodiaq are worthy of their popularity. They are well designed and practically built, making use of their size in good but slightly different ways.

The Peugeot 5008 doesn’t boast the best raw performance, but it drives very well and is more economical. With a fresh, interesting design that manages to pack a lot into its slightly smaller frame, it’s also great for buyers who would appreciate a bit more practical cargo space. It is a commendable large SUV that would make the perfect choice for city living and small growing families.

The Skoda Kodiaq on the other hand does offer extra performance as well as 4×4, which would likely make it more appealing towards the weekend warrior crowd.

This is an age old question when it comes to buying cars. Everyone’s situation and personal preferences are different, so while it makes sense for some to go the new car route, for others it is probably better for them to follow a used car buying guide instead.

There are advantages and disadvantages of buying a used car or new and we’ll go through some of these in order to help you work out which may be best for you.

Pros of buying a new car

Warranty – all new cars sold come with a manufacturer’s warranty. This offers peace of mind that if your car has a fault, the manufacturer will fix it at no cost to you. New car warranty periods and conditions vary between different manufacturers but should be at least three years. For example, Peugeot provides a 5 year/unlimited km warranty on its vehicles, and throws in free roadside assistance for that whole period too.

Reliability – A new car is, well, brand new, so there’s no wear and tear or issues with reliability to worry about. Besides, you have the manufacturer’s warranty if anything does go wrong.

Technology and Safety – Car makers are constantly trying to improve their offerings to customers and also have to keep up with any changes in safety and regulatory requirements. So the newer the car, the more current and advanced its technology and safety features are likely to be.

Customisable – When buying a new car, you get the opportunity to select the features and options such as the colour, infotainment and safety options you want to include, and have the car built pretty much exactly as you like.

New car smell – For some of us, nothing can beat that new car look, feel and smell!

Cons of buying a new car

Price – The price is going to be higher for a new car, with all the new features, warranty etc, not to mention additional costs in taxes and registration. So buying a new car requires a lot more cash than buying a used one.

Depreciation – If you’re thinking of your new car as an asset, think again. There is no argument that the value of a new car drops as soon as you sign on that dotted line. The depreciation can be around 10-15% immediately off the car yard and 40% in the first three years.

Higher Insurance – A new car means a higher value, and that typically translates to much larger insurance premiums.

Pros of buying a used car

Cheaper – With the rapid depreciation in value of new cars, you can save thousands buying the exact model used car, but that has is and just a year or two older. This can make buying a used car an excellent option if you’re low on cash and working with a smaller budget.

Depreciation – There’s no need to worry about the value of your car depreciating at a rapid rate after purchase. Most of the depreciation has occurred after 4 or 5 years, so no sleepless nights over this issue.

Insurance – Due to being lower in value compared to new cars, the cost of premiums will likely be lower for a used car.

Choice of seller – When buying a used car, you get the option to buy from a private seller as well as a dealer. This opens up more sources to buy from of and possibly greater savings (although buying from private sellers and others doesn’t come without risks).

Cons of buying a used car

Condition – There’s no guarantee that you won’t run into problems with a used car, depending on its age and condition. With more wear and tear you can probably expect more frequent maintenance, though you can avoid real problem cars by doing a proper inspection before purchase.

Features and Options – Unlike when buying a new car, you can’t choose what you want to include in a used car, only go with what is already there, meaning you may have to compromise on certain features and options it comes with.

Finance – Getting a loan for a used car is usually more difficult due to the risks involved. If you don’t have luck securing a pre-approved loan yourself, it’s often less hassle to buy from a dealer that often can offer you finance for used cars.

Dealer Demonstrators – Best of Both worlds?

Another option when buying a car is the possibility of buying a dealer demonstrator model (or sometimes referred to as a ‘demo’). Demonstrator’s are basically cars in the dealer’s stock that have been registered but not sold, and are kept at the dealership as vehicles for test drives, for management staff as company cars or as service loan cars.

The simplest way to describe a demo is “near-new”. And being “slightly used”, demos will be a little cheaper than a brand new car but will have at least all the standard features of a current or very recent model. It will still come under a new car warranty (though with slightly shorter period remaining, depending on when the demo was first registered) and just like with a used car, you will have to be happy with the options that have been chosen and already built into the demo.

Making a Decision

As you think about what kind of car you want to buy, refer to the pros and cons listed above and break down your options. Try to prioritise what matters the most to you in the car buying process.

Perth City Peugeot is a one-stop car dealer that stocks new, used and demo vehicles. Give them a call if you have any questions and drop in to the dealer and see the differences of each type for yourself.

Because of this, the process of buying a car will likely also be one of the more stressful situations you may face. In some regards, buying a used car can pose more of a headache than buying a new one, as there are a few more things to consider in the buying process.

With a vast quantity and variety of used cars for sale out there, how do you choose which car to buy? What should you be looking out for when you find one you think you like? Don’t worry you’re not alone in asking questions such as these. You’re not the first and you won’t be the last.

In this used car buying guide we will discuss and attempt to help you navigate through some of the more common topics you need to take into consideration, or at the very least give you some awareness on what to expect or look out for when buying for a used car.

Choose the right car

Before you start your hunt, you first need to know what you are looking for. If you don’t already have an idea what make or model you are leaning toward, the best way is to make a list of the most important features you must have, think about what purpose the car will serve and the budget you have to work with. From those factors you should be able to narrow down your choices and come up with a shortlist of suitable cars.

Once you have your shortlist it’s time to start the actual search. When buying a used car you have two options, to either buy from a licensed dealer or from a private seller. There are pros and cons to buying from each and you can read up on that in further detail, but the main thing now is to decide whether you want to buy from just one of the places, or both, so you can ignore any unwanted listings you come across and focus your search more narrowly and quickly. Inspection time

Once you have located some possible cars that match what you’re looking for, it’s time to go do some viewings or inspections. During the inspections there are a few parts to this. Do a visual inspection of both the interior exterior of the car, checking for any defects or signs of potential damage that may have occurred or be occurring (such as in the case with corrosion).

You also need to test the functionality of all the different features to make sure they are in good operating condition.

Pop the bonnet and check the engine bay for defects, and don’t forget to test the running and condition of the engine itself.

If you are not confident in your own mechanical inspection skills, bring along a friend with good knowledge about cars for a second opinion, or consider getting a proper pre-purchase inspection done by an independent qualified mechanic.

Go for a test drive

The test drive is one of the most important parts of any inspection. It can reveal things you would not have been able to tell when the car was sitting stationary in the driveway or on the car lot. Getting behind the wheel also lets you experience firsthand what it would be like to be driving that car, and if you would be happy with it.

Make sure the price is right

Always try to negotiate, no matter who you’re buying from. Use information such as the research you did on the expected market price, and factor in any defects or issues you may have come across during the inspection of the vehicle. There is always a bit of wriggle room between the seller’s asking price and the final purchase price however big or small that amount may turn out to be, so put those haggling skills to work!

Know the history

It’s advisable to get as much detailed history about the car as possible, including service history. Conduct a Personal Property Securities Register (PPSR) check to make sure that there are no nasty surprises attached to the vehicle. You don’t want to have your newly purchased car repossessed from under you out of the blue.

Do you require finance?

Figure out if you will need finance beforehand. Getting finance can be risky, so it is recommended that you explore as many ways to avoid this if possible, such as negotiating a lower price or perhaps offering to trade in your old car to knock a bit more off the purchase price. You can try to source a loan on your own, though many dealers will be able to offer you something through them.

What’s the deal with warranty?

If you don’t already know this, dealers are legally obligated to provide a statutory warranty for cars over $4,000 provided they meet the age and/or distance requirements. This has provided a strong disincentive for the shady dealings that plagued dealership sales in the past.

However the statutory warranty does not apply in the case of private sellers, which pretty much means that private used cars are sold as-is, and you’ll be responsible for any repair costs after the sale.

Make sure Paperwork is done

Make sure all the necessary paperwork has been signed and properly dealt with before parting with your hard earned money.

In addition, check that they have a copy of the owner’s manual and all of the keys and remotes necessary for the operation of the car.

Add-ons and Insurance

Getting insurance for any car is always a good idea, even if it’s for third party property protection (Note: some third party policies will cover a small amount for not-at-fault claims. Read the terms and conditions carefully though before choosing).

On the odd occasion a dealer may offer some add-on products such as paint or upholstery protection, tinting or their own extended warranty, just as they would for a brand new car. Do your research on things such as aftermarket prices beforehand so you have a good idea whether something is worth considering.

Whenever you’re in the market for a used car, do take a look on the Perth City Peugeot website, give us a call or simply drop in to see what range of pre-loved vehicles we currently have for sale. Our friendly sales staff is always available to provide any assistance you require.

But the French manufacturer is relatively less well known down under compared to the likes of Toyota, Mazda, Hyundai and Ford.

So it is unsurprising that one of the most common question to that cross the minds of buyers new to Peugeot seems to be “Is Peugeot 3008 a reliable car?” This is especially since car other makers (most notably Toyota) have had a longstanding reputation for building solid and reliable cars.

In a recent Peugeot 3008 review we touched on the quality of the finish and a robust build quality of the French flagship SUV.

For those who are unfamiliar with Peugeot may not realise how well regarded the 3008 is around the world and how much pride and attention that Peugeot places in its design, construction, offering a comprehensive after sales program to reflect that and offer buyers greater peace of mind.

A multi-award winner

Since it was first launched in 2016 the Peugeot 3008 SUV has won around 70 international awards over 3 continents, and conducted by some of the world’s most respected industry and consumer motoring organisations. The major highlight would definitely be being named ‘European Car of the Year in 2017’ and awarded at the Geneva Motor Show.

More recently the Peugeot 3008 managed to snag an incredible fourth consecutive crown for the ‘Best Medium SUV’ category at the Carbuyer Best Car Awards 2020. This follow a string of other top industry accolades, including ‘New Car of the Year’ title at the Auto Trader Awards 2019, and ‘Best Mid-Sized SUV’ prize in the 2019 Driver Power Survey.

With such recognition by so many over so many years, one can’t help but acknowledge how appealing and well-built the Peugeot 3008 is.

Confidence in the quality

To further allay any doubts new customers may have, Peugeot developed the Peugeot Care Program to reassure buyers that the Peugeot 3008 was designed to give you many years of worry-free motoring. This means that as a Peugeot 3008 new car owner you will receive:

5 Year/Unlimited Kilometre Warranty

This warranty covers any repairs or replacements as a result of a manufacturing or material defect within the warranty period. The part will be repaired or replaced without charge by an authorised Peugeot dealer, regardless of any change of ownership of the vehicle during the period covered.

12 Year Anti-Corrosion Warranty

Peugeot backs its advanced technology and processes optimised to provide durable and long lasting protection from the elements. This is one of the longest body warranties available in the world today.

Peugeot Assistant

Free Peugeot Roadside Assistance cover that you can rely upon in the case of a breakdown or emergency. This includes 24-hour roadside assistance, vehicle recovery, technical advice, and is provided for the whole duration of the warranty period

Satisfied Owners

The topic of car reliability and owner satisfaction and drivers can often be contentious, and unfortunately it is not uncommon to hear French or Italian makes attracting the most complaints. However this widely held belief has been disproven time and again, at least in the case of the Peugeot 3008.

The annual Driver Power study by Auto Express asks car owners to complete a survey and rank their vehicle across 31 categories, ranging from how well it drives to whether it has proven reliable. In 2018 the survey of more than 80,000 drivers of cars aged between one and two-years old revealed that the best new car to own was the Peugeot 3008, which achieved an overall satisfaction rating of 93.8%. The 3008 was widely praised by owners for its styling, driving experience, reliability, safety and running costs.

Fast forward to 2020 and once again the Peugeot has ranked extremely highly, placing second in the Best cars to own: Driver Power 2020 results, with an overall owner satisfaction rating of 92.04%, missing out on the top spot by a mere whisker of a 0.01% difference (the winner was the Kia Sorrento with an overall satisfaction rating of 92.05%).

Peugeot, as a brand, was also the winner of the JD Power UK Vehicle Dependability Study.

Most new Peugeot owners in a worldwide poll were satisfied with their purchase, and 9 out of 10 Peugeot 3008 owners from the UK would recommend a Peugeot to a friend.

Still going strong

Five years on from its debut and this striking SUV is still attracting new owners with its stylish design, both internally and externally, backed up with a great finish and solid build quality.

So don’t just take our word for it, listen to the experts and perhaps more importantly feedback from real owners that have recognised Peugeot 3008’s excellence over and over again. Perhaps it’s time to challenge any misconceptions or doubts you may have about being French made and give the 3008 a chance. Take it out for a test drive at Perth City Peugeot today and see for yourself what the fuss is all about.

But is that necessarily true? Isn’t it riskier? What are the differences?

So what are the advantages of buying a used car from a dealer as opposed to a private seller? In this used car buying guide of sorts, let’s delve into the pros and cons of buying from either a dealer or private seller.

Pros of Buying from a Dealer

Making the process easier

For many of us, buying a car, even a used one, will be the second biggest financial decision we make (after a house) of our lives. This can lead to a stressful situation, especially for the unwary or inexperienced.

Buying from a dealer can take some of this pressure off because selling cars is what they do for a living. They know the ins and outs of the process, including all the paperwork involved and forms and declarations that need to be filled and submitted.

Warranty and Legal Protection

One of the more factors which are sometimes overlooked or underappreciated is the fact that when you buy from a dealer, you have the peace of mind that they are bound by Australian Consumer Laws and also statutory warranty issued under the Motor Vehicle Dealers Act.

The statutory warranty applies to vehicles sold with a price of more than $4000, is not more than 12 years old, and travelled less than 180,000 km. The length of the warranty will either be 1 month or 3 months, depending on the age of the vehicle as well as the number of kilometres travelled at the time of the sale.

Used cars sold by dealers are usually given a thorough inspection and, if necessary, repairs. Having said that, it is still a good idea to consider getting a further independent inspection done for greater peace of mind.

Easier finance

If you’re running a tight budget and need some finance to get you over the line, dealers are best placed to help you with this. Getting finance on your own can be difficult and time-consuming, especially for used cars.

More cars in one place

Dealers usually have many different used cars for sale, so you can check out many cars in the same place. Perth City Peugeot has a wide range of used cars on sale at any one time and from many different manufacturers, not just pre-loved Peugeots. Who knows, you may even find something suitable that you weren’t considering before.

Cons of Buying from a Dealer

Price

It is more expensive in general when buying from a dealer, as they are running a business and have to make a profit while also covering their margins. Because of that too, they may have less room for negotiation. But don’t let that discourage you from considering dealers in your search for a used car, as you may find that the difference may not be as big as you think.

If you’re upgrading and your current vehicle is still in good condition, you may consider trading it in with the dealer. Though you may possibly get a higher price if you sold it privately, trading it in with a dealer is a MUCH lower hassle way of lowering the drive away price of the car you want, and takes a lot of the guesswork and uncertainty out of the whole process.

High-pressure sales

Ah, the dread of the pushy salesman. As they often rely on sales commissions, some salespeople can be a little eager. The best and most successful ones are those that are trained to listen to what you want and help you make decisions that are in your best interests. If you do get someone that is a bit too overbearing, talk to the sales manager, or simply take your business somewhere else.

Pros of Buying from a Private Seller

More room for a better price

The strongest argument for buying from a private seller is, by no surprise, the price. You will find that there is more room to negotiate with a private seller, and there is a greater difference between the asking price and final selling price of the car. Other factors such as if the seller needs to sell fast for some reason, will you give you more opportunity to haggle.

Get a more authentic low-down

You are usually able to get more information from talking to the seller, especially if they are the only owner. Things such as more detailed service history, as well as any niggles or problems. Of course, this doesn’t mean you don’t have to do a PPSR check and/or get a pre-purchase inspection done.

Not as pushy

Sure, the seller wants to get rid of their car, but they don’t have a quota or a boss to make them happy, so likely no high-pressure sales tactics to deal with here.

Cons of Buying from a Private Seller

No warranty

Private sellers are not required to offer any kind of warranty. Cars listed privately are generally sold “as-is”, meaning that once you’ve paid, anything that happens is your own responsibility. So it’s more important when buying from a private seller to do all the required checks and inspections before buying.

More work for you

It is up to you and the private seller to do all the required paperwork. If you are unsure of anything you will have to figure it out between the two of you.

As well as the headache of paperwork, there’s the possibility of more time and effort involved in the search for your used car, from waiting for the right listing to appear, organising inspection times, and travelling across all over the city to see prospective cars.

Going over the list of pros and cons above might make you feel as if buying a used car from a dealer is the way to go – and for many, it is.

Good dealers such as Perth City Peugeot have a reputation to maintain and will go above and beyond to make your used car buying experience a simple, stress-free one. They even clean and detail every car before putting it out for sale. No mysterious food scraps, wrappers, pet fur, or funky smells to deal with.

At the end of the day, you should weigh the pros and cons against your personal situation (eg. What kind of budget do you have? Do you want to deal with paperwork yourself? How much time can you spend?) before making your choice.

If you’re unsure about which option is best for you, then just take a wander down to Perth City Peugeot. We pride ourselves on being easy-going, friendly and great listeners. We’re more than happy to show you a car, take a look at yours, and give you the options completely pressure-free. Come down and see for yourself how easy getting into a new-to-you car can be!

Let’s go through some of the key features and Peugeot 3008 specs that make this mid-sized SUV one of the best in class for the modern urbanite and perfect for small growing families.

With the Peugeot 3008, you get to choose from one of three trim levels, namely the entry-level Allure, mid-level GT Line and top-of-line sporty GT. With each upgrade in trim, you get more features as standard, extra colour choice and upgraded materials and detailing both inside and in the exterior. Prices range from $40,990 for the Allure up to $54,990 for the GT trim.

Good on size all around

The Peugeot 3008 measures in at a length of 4447mm, width of 2098mm and height of 1624mm. This basically translates to a car that is big enough to have a commanding presence on the road but not so large as to feel out of place. It is a great height for the average person, with a good clearance that allows easy access for both kids and adults for getting in and out of the car. The two side door mirrors also fold in, which comes in handy when parking in tighter spaces.

Interior space is well designed and utilised. With a capacity of 591 litres in the boot, you’ll be able to easily fit a pram, buggy or a couple of large (and small) suitcases in the back with no problem at all. You can almost triple that boot space by folding down the rear seats, opening it up to 1790 litres in volume, handy for moving boxes or a large TV.

Technology at your fingertips

The focus of the cabin’s design of the Peugeot 3008 is the i-cockpit. Using the 8-inch touchscreen complemented by cool satin chrome “piano key” toggle switches you can access the entertainment system and all the car’s controls. And the 12.3 inches fully digital instrument panel features a customisable display where you can choose the information that is most important to have in front of you as you drive.

For many of us, our phones have become an extension of our lives. One key standard feature in the 3008 is the Mirror Screen function that allows you to connect your phone to the car and control it using the touchscreen. You can choose to use the in-built Satnav or Google maps from your phone. If you have an iPhone, you do this through Apple Carplay. You can use Siri as well.

Lean but mean on the streets

Out on the road, the Peugeot 3008 doesn’t disappoint. The 121kW THP turbo petrol engine with an EAT6 6-speed automatic gearbox found in both the Allure and GT line trims boasts a punchy 240Nm of torque. It delivers solid grunt with impressive acceleration and power, making light work of weaving in and out of traffic on your way to work or ferrying the kids around. And with a fuel economy of 7 L/100km, it isn’t really thirsty at all.

If you are one of those people that spend more time on the road, or like getting out of the city on a regular basis, you’ll want the 133kW BlueHDi turbo diesel engine offered with the GT trim. Combined with an EAT8 8-speed automatic gearbox, this is the most powerful version of the 3008 range. It pulls really easily with a maximum torque of 400Nm, with a takeoff from 0 to 100km/h in 9 seconds, and has no trouble getting quickly up to highway speeds (even with a fully-loaded car), while offering plenty of overtaking opportunity as well. Despite the extra power, it runs at super-efficient 5 L/100km.

The fuel efficiency of both engines combined with 53 litres of fuel tank capacity means you can save more, with fewer trips to the petrol station.

Drive with confidence, safety is a priority

Every 3008 comes with two sets of Isofix mounting points to keep child seats confidently secure, as well as six airbags (including full-length curtain airbags) to shield occupants and minimise injury in case of an impact or collision.

On longer journeys like when heading up to Kalbarri, you sometimes find yourself losing concentration behind the wheel. With active lane keep assist, the car can take over and keep you between the lines, while adaptive cruise control will automatically maintain a safe distance between you and the car in front of you. Automatic emergency braking is also included as standard.

In recognition of all the safety features offered in 3008, it has been awarded a five star Euro NCAP rating for safety, and you can’t get any higher than that. With outstanding levels of standard safety equipment and driver assistance, rest assured that you and your loved ones are in safe hands on the road.

What these specs tell us

In summing up, the Peugeot 3008 is everything you would come to expect and more from a multi-award-winning SUV that represents great value for money. It is stylish, practical, good to drive, and well equipped, and arguably one of the best family SUVs out on the market today.

It’s all about the i-Cockpit

Peugeot’s signature i-Cockpit design definitely creates an enhanced driving experience. As soon as you sit down you find yourself surrounded by a wealth of technology all within easy access from the comfortable driver’s seat. The dashboard features and centre console controls are logically positioned out and easy to use. And steering the magnificent beast with your fingers wrapped around that full-grain leather-trimmed (multi-function) steering wheel is a different experience in and of itself.

Enter a 100% digital world. The centrepiece of the i-Cockpit is the 12.3-inch head-up digital instrument panel which can be customised with various display modes to suit the driver’s personal needs and preference, or usefully show sat-nav directions directly in front of you.

It has been designed with the driver in mind, with the small details that make the biggest difference. Take the position of the compact steering wheel, which is purposely low set to reduce arm fatigue, whilst its dimensions heighten the sense of agility in the bends.

Adding to the ‘cockpit’ design, the touchscreen and toggle switches have been angled towards the driver whilst the configurable 12.3” head-up digital instrument panel is positioned above the steering wheel to appear closer to the road, reducing the distance your eyes travel to view key information.

A central touch screen about the size of your average tablet is positioned on the dashboard and conveniently next to the digital instrument panel for easy driver access. The colour screen is high definition and is accompanied by a series of seven physical elegant piano keys – the “toggle switches” – and work in conjunction allowing direct and permanent access to the main comfort functions: radio, air conditioning, 3D connected navigation with voice command, vehicle settings, telephone, mobile applications and hazard warning lights.

Stay Connected

Smartphones have become an integral part of your daily life, much like they have for the new PEUGEOT 3008. Information is integrated into the central screen thanks to MirrorScreen compatibility including using Apple CarPlay or Android Auto connection. Recharge your devices through the available USB ports on the centre console, or simply pop your phone on the wireless induction charging pad.

Attention to Detail

The plush, luxurious Peugeot 3008 interior makes it a pleasure to drive or simply just sit in. The meticulous attention to detail is obvious inside the signature Peugeot i-Cockpit. With a full-grain leather-trimmed steering wheel, glossy black trim, striking chrome detailing and soft-touch materials covering the door and dashboard, no detail has been overlooked. Design of the satin chrome toggle switches under the central touch screen was inspired by the world of aviation, providing a unique touch to the striking cockpit design. And with perfect weighting and damping, each switch is a work of art.

The material used on high-touch surfaces are of great quality and the wrap-around design, with metal accents, gives the cabin a stylish, upmarket feel.

With a selection from interior fabric to full Nappa leather seat trims and various finishes available for the Peugeot 3008, you can choose the final touches to create your own personalised ambience and add to the perceived level of quality and allure of the cabin.

Versatile and Spacious Storage

Storage options are right up there with the best of them too. The central armrest is basically a large air-conditioned cave, big enough to fit a packed lunch along with a few snacks while keeping them nice and cool too. Just in front of this sit two cup holders, and there’s a tray for your mobile or quick access items. The glovebox could be bigger, but the front door pockets are usefully large. In the rear, you’ll find an armrest with built-in cup holders, map pockets on the backs of the front seats, and more door bins.

Create your own in-car space with Peugeot 3008’s Magic Flat system that allows you to fold the rear seats in a 2/3-1/3 split. Handy quick-release levers just inside the boot opening make it too easy to fold the backrests down, and the seats lie completely flat once lowered.

Peugeot 3008 boot space is huge and generous, able to swallow a couple of prams or golf sets with ease. Picnic or camping gear for a family road trip shouldn’t pose a problem either. The wide opening, low load lip combined with a boot floor that can slide out makes it easy to load items into the back, especially useful if you’re carrying a large box or esky with both hands. Not to mention you won’t have to bend over too much either, which your back will thank you for.

Conclusion

There’s a lot to like about the interior design of the Peugeot 3008, with its classy surroundings, attention to detail in design and well laid out space management. Truly an SUV made for the modern family.

1. Research the Right Used Car for You

First and foremost you must first decide what vehicle to make and model you want. There is so much variety in the used car market that your search can get overwhelming if you don’t narrow down what you want.

When doing your research, look at things like the car’s reputation on things like maintenance costs, pricing, and possible defects or common problems.

2. Interior Inspection

Get a good look and feel inside the cabin and make sure everything works. Make sure that there are no unusual or unwanted smells.

Check the seats, flooring, and roof for signs of damage or excess wear.

Test all electrical and electronic components are in good working condition, including all lights, buttons, mirrors, air-conditioning/heating, music system, and infotainment unit controls.

Check the handbrake and the instrument panel. Keep an eye out for any warning lights when you turn on the car.

3. Exterior Inspection

Here you’ll be looking for things like rust and any chips, scratches, and dents to the frame and bodywork (including underneath the car). If anything looks like it’s been repainted, it may be a warning sign that it’s either been in an accident or rust damage has occured.

Check the tyres. Not only are they expensive to replace, but worn or incorrectly aligned or installed tyres also pose a safety risk.

Check the tread depth of each tyre and if the wear is even across the tyre. Note if the tyre sidewall has cracks, bulges, or scuffing, indicating damage. And don’t forget the spare tyre.

Check the windows and windscreen for any chips or cracks.

4. Under the Hood

The engine is the most important part of any vehicle. Pop the bonnet up and visually inspect the engine for fluid leaks and oil stains, corrosion, and cracked hoses or belts.

Check the engine oil and transmission fluid levels and for discolouration — in general, the oil should be light brown to honey gold, transmission fluid should be pink or red. Check the owner’s manual for specific details as some may differ.

Check the health of the battery, radiator coolant, and other reservoir fluid levels.

Startup the engine and note of any funny sounds, smells, or leaking.

5. Test Drive

You should never buy a used car without doing a test drive. Mechanically, you are listening for any unusual sounds or noises as you are driving, such as knocking, squeaking, whirring or loud thrumming, which indicates a problem somewhere. Also, test the brakes thoroughly and that the window wipers work.

But just as importantly, how does the car feel like when you’re driving? Does it accelerate smoothly? Do you feel cramped or uncomfortable in any way? Do you have a good view in front and around the car? If you love how the car handles and it’s in good condition, consider making an offer!

6. Check the Paperwork and History

Make sure the used car you intend to buy does not have any encumbrances that will give you unnecessary headaches or even potentially end up having it be repossessed.

For this you need to do an online search on the Personal Property Securities Register (PPSR), using the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) of the used car (or the serial number if you only have the manufacturer’s number).

The PPSR will then email a search certificate to you stating if there’s any money owing on the car. You should also receive additional information such as whether it has been written-off or stolen, registration number and expiry make, model and colour of the car, and if it’s part of the faulty Takata airbag recall.

Ask the seller for the full-service history of the car to make sure it has been properly maintained.

7. Keys and Owner’s Manual

This may seem trivial but is sometimes overlooked. Every brand new car should come with 2 keys, so make sure that the seller gives you both keys. If the seller or owner has only one, it could cost you a pretty penny if you want to make another copy. And make sure that they still have a copy of the owner’s manual too, just in case you may need it.

8. Pre-purchase Vehicle Inspection

For greater peace of mind, getting the used vehicle checked by a trusted mechanic is also highly recommended. Many companies and mechanics offer a pre-purchase vehicle inspection service that provides you a report of any mechanical problems found with the vehicle.

When buying from a dealer, they usually have their own mechanics go over the car before putting it out for sale, so in that case, you can decide if you want another inspection done by an independent mechanic. Even better than that though, you can request to have issues or imperfections corrected – and make this a clause of your deal!

9. Negotiate the Price

Negotiation is important when buying a used car. Take into consideration information such as any faults or needed repairs from the inspection as well as the expected market price you found through your initial research.

These issues can be used to negotiate a reduced price with the seller, so factor them into the offer you make.

10. Warranty

Another important factor to consider is the warranty. A statutory warranty (also commonly known as a “lemon law”) applies to all vehicles bought from a licensed motor vehicle dealer. The Motor Vehicle Dealers Act requires licensed dealers to fix certain defects in used motor vehicles they have sold.

A statutory warranty also applies only to motor vehicles that have a purchase price of $4,000 or more, together with limits on age and the number of kilometres travelled at the time of sale. Private vehicle sales are not covered by this statutory warranty. This is commonly referred to as ‘buyer beware’. If you purchase a used car privately, and halfway home it breaks down, that’s on you!

Conclusion

So there you have it, 10 things to keep in mind if you’re considering what to check when buying a used car. And if you’re wondering, yes, the folks at Perth City Peugeot also have a wide range of used cars for sale, so why not go see if your next used car is one of them. Happy hunting!

Unlike buying a brand new car, there are several more aspects to be aware of that can make buying a used car something where all sorts of things can go wrong.

We’re here to take the weight off your shoulders a little bit, helping you to be aware of the essentials when looking to buy a used car. Make sure that you take your time as you navigate your way through the interesting world of used cars, and never rush into a decision before doing your research and consulting a used car buying guide.

What features are you looking for?

Remember, that this isn’t like buying any other second-hand item, as the price usually carries a certain weight. So the first thing you should consider before jumping onto Gumtree, or visiting your local car dealership to start searching for cars, is to examine your requirements, and what specific types of features you are looking for. What budget constraints are you operating within, and how far are you willing to push these? Bare in the mind that there is usually a negotiation period with the owner and the interested customer, so factor this into your initial offer.

What purpose will it serve?

Are you simply looking for a used car that will get you from A to B, or are you searching for a new everyday SUV that could fit your whole family? Establish what the car will primarily be used for, as this will help to form the basis of the types of cars you’ll be looking for, as well as their respective age and condition.

For example, if you need a family car and are willing to spend a little bit more for the best safety features, you may want to be searching for a more modern car, which focuses more on optimising safety. It’s useful to also check out some of the used car safety ratings and compare these with your requirements, particularly if you have young kids who need booster seats.

Inspecting the Car

Once you’ve narrowed down your search, you can start heading out and making those initial first inspections. Remember that it always pays to bring a friend or family member along with you to the inspection. Having an extra set of eyes and someone to add some more questions is helpful for ensuring you’re properly validating the quality and condition of the used car.

One important thing to verify with the owner is whether or not the car is debt-free. The great thing about buying from a dealer and not a private seller is that the dealer has a legal obligation to guarantee to you that the car is debt-free.

Ask about the car’s history

As well as asking the classic questions such as the car’s age and mileage, you can ask about the car’s history and service record. You’ll be able to cross-reference this with the service logbook to see when and where the car was serviced. Always check on the current registration and insurance policy of the vehicle, so you know what costs to expect before you pull the trigger on a purchase. Double-check that the insurance is arranged and set in motion before you get behind the wheel of the car.

Advantages of Buying From A Dealer

If you’re looking to buy a used car from a dealership, you can also benefit from the fact that you can trade-in your old car in the process. Unless you’re a real gearhead, you’ll probably want to get a full independent mechanical report on the car that you’re looking to buy. That way you can rest easy knowing that you haven’t missed any glaringly obvious issues with the used car.

When you’re buying a used car from a dealer in WA, if the car is less than 10 years old and has covered less than 150,000km, you’re entitled to a 5000km or 3-month (whatever comes first) statutory warranty. If the car is between 10 and 12 years old and has between 150,000km and 180,000km under its belt, this statutory warranty applies for 1500km or 1 month.

Test Drive

As perfect as the car may look on paper and in person, you won’t have a full understanding of the car until you take it for a test drive. If you can try and take the car around some quiet roads, you can listen closely to see if there are any unusual problems or noises that the car creates. If it’s a manual car, test to see if you can shift between all gears smoothly and ask the seller about any particular nuances that may benefit you when driving the car.

You can explore our stock to examine the full range of used cars that we have available at Perth City Peugeot. You’re more than welcome to head down to our dealership to take one for a test drive and ask us any sort of question you may have.

This blog is your guide to distinguishing these two different cars, breaking down exactly how they differ, and some of the key features and advantages of each car.

Peugeot 3008

The Peugeot 3008 is a popular and sleekly designed midsize SUV that has a wealth of different awards under its belt. Looking at the essential features, we can see that it has 5 seats, a 7.7L/100km fuel economy, and a 1.6L turbocharged petrol engine. This is connected to a six-speed automatic transmission, which goes up to eight-speed, on the 2.0L diesel engine of the GT model.

The precise and aesthetically superior design of the Peugeot 3008 makes it one of the best looking vehicles in its class. With four different variants to choose from, even the standard Active model is bursting at the seams with a host of interesting features.

i-Cockpit

In the cabin of the car, the modern-looking dash is crowned as the Peugeot i-Cockpit. The interior is focused around the customisable digital screen and a second 8-inch screen situated in the middle of the dash. You’ll also find a compact steering wheel with leather trim for added comfort.

Comfort and Convenience

The Peugeot 3008 features a dual-zone climate control that comes standard across all their models. This gives you an ideal solution for keeping the kids in the back at the perfect temperature, whilst allowing you to tailor the front temperature to make your driving experience more comfortable. On the GT Line variant, you also have the choice of two interior ambiances.

You also have a convenient 591L of boot room, which turns into 1670L with the rear chairs folded, giving you the room to load up the back when you’re moving house or adding in that new piece of furniture at home.

Safety

The safety features in the Peugeot 3008 are one of the clear benefits of the vehicle, with the higher end models offering quite a bit more in this regard. The speed limit recognition feature across all trim levels is a useful design feature that allows your car to examine speed signs as you pass them and relay this information onto the screen right in front of you. Other features that come standard in the base Active model include a distance alert, a fatigue warning, and lane change warning and assistance.

The advanced safety pack is optional in the Allure model and comes standard in the GT Line and GT models as well. Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) is also present on the GT Line and GT variants, along with full LED headlamps and auto high beams.

Hyundai Tucson

Another popular mid-sized SUV that’s been well deliberated by many families across the country is the Hyundai Tucson. Being both easy on the eye and very practical in its use, the Korean brand has built this car as its SUV solution to the urban jungle. Although the Hyundai Tucson is similar to the Peugeot 3008 in that it has 5 seats, the Tucson has a little extra grit in that the standard model has a 2.0L petrol engine, giving you a fuel economy of around 7.8L/100km.

Design

The 2018 revamp on the design added a new radiator grille and headlamps, helping it to make more of an impact on the exterior design. There are also a few differences between the various models of the Hyundai Tucson. The Highlander model also has dual exhausts, the Elite has chrome finishes around the windows, and the Active X model has larger wheels than the Active.

In terms of the size of the design, it’s a bit shorter than other traditional mid-sized SUV models. This makes it quite an appealing option for families commuting around the city on a regular basis, being a regular sight at school drop-offs and pickups in particular.

Practicality

The practicality of the Hyundai Tucson is at the core of its appeal, using its smaller design to its advantage. It’s ideal for those who often find themselves in tight car parks and need an easy to park SUV. However, the trade-off on this is that the interior space is rather limited.

The boot space holds around 488L, which is equivalent to fitting a large suitcase and a big pram at the same time. With the seats folded flat, this gives you 1478L, which isn’t quite as much as the Peugeot 3008, but definitely not the smallest on the market.

Safety

The Hyundai Tucson has AEB and lane-keeping assistance across their lower range models as well. Some of the other standard safety features include the six airbags, rearview camera, and the rear parking sensors helping to make that park in the cramped city car park even easier.

The Elite and Highlander models also have adaptive cruise control, AEB that works at higher speeds, and blind-spot warnings. If you’ve got younger kids that are still in booster seats, the Tucson also has three tether points, and the second row has two ISOFIX mounts across it.

The Verdict

The stylish design of the Peugeot 3008 in combination with the abundance of features and optional add ons, makes it a solid choice for those willing to pay for quality in the mid-size SUV range. If you’d like to see a more comprehensive guide to the Peugeot 3008, you can see our full Peugeot 3008 review for a complete breakdown.

The Hyundai has some dated design features, but has a lower starting price point and more compact size, making it quite appealing to a family looking for a nifty everyday car for getting around the city.

If you’d like to explore the Peugeot 3008 a bit further and would like to book a test drive, send us an enquiry today or make your way down to our Victoria Park dealership.
